To produce competent graduates who can apply modern biotechnological tools to develop improved crops, enhance livestock productivity, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
📌 Program Rationale
Ethiopia's agricultural sector, the backbone of its economy, faces significant challenges from climate change, pests, diseases, and low productivity. To overcome these hurdles and achieve food security and economic transformation, there is a critical need for highly skilled professionals who can apply modern biotechnological tools.
This program is designed to produce competent graduates who can develop improved crops, enhance livestock productivity, and promote sustainable agricultural practices, directly contributing to Ethiopia's national development priorities. It aligns with Ethiopia's Agricultural Development-Led Industrialization policy, the National Biotechnology Policy, the Climate Resilient Green Economy strategy, and the HETRIIL Proclamation (No. 1298/2023). It is designed in accordance with the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16-25) and the Tuning Africa Project methodology for Agricultural Sciences.
